1. Main Hydraulic Pump (also known as the Primary Pump)

The main hydraulic pump is the central component in the hydraulic system of a concrete pump truck, responsible for supplying hydraulic oil pressure to the cylinders that control the boom and related components.

The commonly used pump type is the Rexroth A4VG series, which is a closed-circuit piston pump. Popular models include A4VG125HD (for boom pumps under 43 meters) and A4VG180HD (for boom pumps 48 meters and above). Here, the “125” or “180” index corresponds to an oil flow rate of 125cc or 180cc per cycle, while the “HD” symbol stands for “Heavy Duty” – meaning it’s a pump series specifically designed for heavy-load applications.

The pump has approximate dimensions of 20 cm long, 30 cm wide, and 40 cm high. Its internal structure includes a coaxial piston system directly driven by the engine, along with important valve assemblies such as pressure regulating valves, safety valves, directional control valves, swash plate control valve assemblies, etc., which help stabilize pressure and protect the entire system during operation.

The pump casing is made from durable cast iron, and the internal components are precision-machined with excellent wear resistance. The average lifespan of the pump is approximately 10,000 operating hours before requiring an overhaul.

On Hyundai Everdigm vehicles, the main hydraulic pump is installed immediately after the Power Take-Off (PTO) and before the swing pump that controls the swing cylinder. Each vehicle is typically equipped with two main pumps of equivalent capacity, connected in series to ensure stable system operation, reduce individual load on each pump, and enhance overall efficiency.

It should be noted that not all A4VG pumps on the market are identical. Depending on the manufacturer, the internal structure can vary significantly. Therefore, selecting the correct type and configuration is crucial to ensure the system’s operational efficiency and durability.

2. Swing Pump (Swing Cylinder Control Pump)

The swing pump is responsible for controlling the reciprocating motion of the S-valve (or swing tube) in the hopper, ensuring a stable and continuous flow of concrete. This is a small but indispensable component in the operation of a concrete pump truck.

The pump measures 26 cm long, 12 cm wide, and 12 cm high. It is made from a specialized aluminum alloy with high wear resistance, suitable for operation under continuously varying temperature and pressure conditions.

The average lifespan of the swing pump ranges from 4 to 5 years, depending on usage frequency, operating conditions, hydraulic oil quality, and installation technique. This is also one of the common points of failure if the hydraulic oil used is not of adequate quality. Specifically, if the oil exhibits foaming or contamination, the internal rubbing surfaces of the pump can quickly wear out, leading to reduced performance or complete damage.

The swing pump is typically installed at the end of the pump system on Everdigm concrete pump trucks.

3. Control Hydraulic Pump (also known as Aluminum Pump, Tandem Pump)

The control pump is a smaller pump, often referred to as an aluminum pump or tandem pump, which supplies hydraulic oil to auxiliary systems such as cooling fans, water pumps, and agitator systems.

The control pump has similar dimensions to the swing pump (26 cm x 12 cm x 12 cm) and uses high-grade aluminum alloy with good wear and oxidation resistance.

The average service life of the control pump is 4 to 5 years. Similar to other pump types, the pump’s lifespan largely depends on using the correct type of hydraulic oil, regular oil changes, and adherence to technical maintenance procedures.

The control pump is also installed at the end of the pump system, alongside the swing pump, on Everdigm concrete pump trucks.
