The construction unit at Noi Bai Airport has completed the concrete pouring for 3 km of the new runway. The runway surface will be grooved before being put into use for the Lunar New Year.Expediting the completion of Noi Bai runway 1B at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi), which is currently in its final stages. The construction unit must work three shifts to ensure the project is operational before the Lunar New Year.
By the end of November, after 5 months of closure for repairs, Noi Bai Airport’s runway 1B is nearing completion. The construction unit has finished laying the top cement concrete layer, which is over 3 km long. The remaining tasks include grooving the concrete surface, constructing service roads, and installing drainage systems on both sides of the runway.
The cross-section of the project includes a 45m-wide cement concrete runway for takeoffs and landings, two 7.5m-wide asphalt concrete service roads, and at the outermost edges, a drainage system and grass verges. By Lunar New Year 2021, runway 1B will be put into operation alongside runway 1A. However, this runway will initially only serve aircraft for takeoff. By mid-2021, after calibration flights, runway 1B will be able to accommodate landing aircraft
At the end of August, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The inspected the construction site and criticized the project’s progress. Mr. The demanded that runway 1B be completed by November 30. From September, numerous machines were mobilized to the site, helping to improve construction speed. Pictured is the SP64 concrete paver, the most modern in Vietnam.
From now until the end of the year, the most time-consuming task is grooving the newly completed concrete layer. The concrete cutting machines at the airport must be modern models, ensuring no dust is generated on the runway.
The drainage system running along the runway is a new item, not included in the old runway design. Previously, poor drainage was also a reason for the rapid deterioration and mud heaving of the old runway whenever aircraft passed over it.
At the construction site, the joint venture of three contractors, ACC24, VINADIC, and Truong Son, is mobilizing over 1,000 personnel, working day and night to accelerate project progress. During the Lunar New Year period, air travel demand will increase sharply, so the airport must have two runways available for operation.
The contractor is also rushing to construct the rapid exit taxiways connecting to the new runway. A representative from Thang Long Project Management Board affirmed that all items must be completed before December 31. And before milling the old runway for repairs, the construction unit dismantled signal lights, signs, and stored them for reinstallation once the new runway is complete. The Ministry of Transport established a separate council to classify and assess the reusability of these equipment.According to zingnew
