The Rescue and Salvage Department was established on August 9, 2004, under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army. It is the leading combat agency advising the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and the General Staff to direct the entire army in effectively performing disaster prevention and rescue missions. In particular, the Department effectively fulfills its role as the standing office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue, advising the National Committee for Search and Rescue and assisting the Government in directing ministries, sectors, and localities to carry out search and rescue tasks effectively over the past 10 years, contributing to minimizing damage caused by disasters and incidents.
