Concrete Pump Spare Parts: Static Wear Plate, Dynamic Wear Plate, and Self-Compensating Seal – How to Distinguish Between Korean and Chinese Products

30/07/2025

In a concrete pump system, three components play a crucial role in ensuring performance and durability: the static wear plate, dynamic wear plate, and self-compensating seal. Each part, though small, acts as a “stopper” to keep the system running smoothly, leak-free, withstand high pressure, and extend the lifespan of the entire system.

1. Static Wear Plate – The “Tungsten Glasses Frame” Sealing Pressure

Position: Installed inside the hopper of the concrete pump, partly at the edge of the hopper and partly in direct contact with the S valve.

Shape & Material: Shaped like glasses frames, the surface is coated with tungsten alloy – a super-hard material second only to diamond, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 3,400°C.

Some cheaper versions may use a manganese coating instead, but they have lower hardness and heat resistance.

Function: Acts as a connection point between the concrete cylinder and the S valve, helping to seal the joint, reduce pressure loss, and prevent concrete from backflowing during pumping.

Common Issues:

  • Surface wear due to continuous friction.
  • Technical cracking after prolonged use – this is a common phenomenon that does not significantly affect performance if not too severe.

2. Dynamic Wear Plate – The Round Cushion in Direct Contact with the Static Wear Plate

Position: Located at the inlet of the S valve, it directly contacts and rubs against the static wear plate during operation.

Shape & Structure: Round, with a special lip edge, this edge is also coated with tungsten to enhance durability and wear resistance.

Function: Serves to seal, transmit pressure from the cylinder to the S valve, and assist in smoothly pushing concrete without loss.

Common Issues:

Edge wear, surface cracking due to continuous operation under high pressure, especially if the self-compensating seal is worn or incorrectly sized.

3. Self-Compensating Seal – The Rubber Accessory That Balances the System

Position: Located between the dynamic wear plate and the S valve, it is an elastic cushion that regulates tilt during operation.

Structure & Shape: A round rubber pad with two levels, good elasticity, and high heat resistance.

Function: Keeps the dynamic wear plate in stable contact with the static wear plate, compensating for tilt, minimizing concrete leakage, and ensuring the longevity of the entire system.

Common Issues:

  • Worn, charred, or deformed if operating in hot conditions or using low-quality seals.
  • If sand or small stones enter the gap due to seal wear, they can damage both the static and dynamic wear plates.

4. Distinguishing Between Chinese and Korean Products – Avoiding “Wasted Money and Trouble”

Identification Methods:

Criteria Korean Products Chinese Products
Label Clear, sharp printing Faded, easy to peel off
Tungsten Coating Thickness ~5mm, evenly coated ~3mm, easy to peel, thin
Seal Elasticity Good elasticity helps maintain even pressure between the two wear plates Low elasticity. When used with the wear plate, it causes one side to wear down, making the wear plate usable only on one side, leading to waste –> Not cost-effective
Number of Self-Compensating Seal Holes 10–12 holes 6–7 holes
Steel Edge of Seal Has steel running from the outside in None or easily protruding
Seal Color Bright color, shiny surface Darker gray
Average Lifespan Dynamic wear plate: 6–9 months, Seal: 2–3 months, Static wear plate: 1–2 years Only 50–70% of Korean products

5. When to Replace Spare Parts?

Dynamic wear plate: replace after 300–500 working hours or when cracks or clear wear are observed.

Static wear plate: has a longer lifespan, from 1000–2000 hours, but should also be thoroughly checked for signs of cracking.

Self-compensating seal: check regularly each time the system is cleaned. Replace every 2–3 months depending on working conditions.

6. Real-World Experience:

Similar to the process of weaving two layers of floor steel or bending steel bars at the top of columns, each detail in the concrete pump system carries a clear technical reason. Do not underestimate the self-compensating seal – a small detail that is the “lock” keeping the entire system operating efficiently. If the seal does not meet standards, concrete can easily leak, pressure can be lost, and the wear plates can wear out quickly – leading to double or triple repair costs.

To produce a quality solid self-compensating seal, the manufacturing process requires:

  • The inner woven steel layer: plays a role in maintaining form, allowing the seal to be elastic without deforming under high pressure.
  • Specialized pressing mold: requires precise ratios between the steel and rubber components.

⚠️ However, Chinese self-compensating seals often do not meet these ratios. The result is that the inner steel layer can easily become exposed, causing bending, tearing of the seal, or even damaging both the dynamic and static wear plates.
